Deals with Smashwords and Author Solutions will widen its e-book store catalogue.
Sony has announced two deals with companies that help authors self-publish their e-books, providing a way for writers to get their works onto its e-book store.
One deal is with Smashwords, which currently has a catalogue of more than 3,000 e-books. Authors will be able to sign up at the Sony Publisher Portal, upload their e-book in Word format, and have it on sale within days on Sony's store - ready for users of the company's new e-book readers to buy and download.
According to PaidContent, authors get 85% of the net proceeds from sales of their e-books from Smashwords.
"Although we're contractually obligated not to disclose the exact discounts we're giving retailers such as Sony, we do tell our authors most retailers are in the 50 percent range which means they can expect to receive 42.5 percent of the list price," says CEO Mark Coker.
Authors signing up to Smashwords can also get their e-books distributed to Amazons' Kindle and the iPhone Stanza e-book app.
