Excluding Japan of course, which receives the 3G device before Christmas.

Last month Sony revealed its forthcoming handheld device will arrive in Japan on December 17th, where pre-orders started yesterday.

The firm has revealed its device will become available in the US, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia from February 22nd 2012.

Jim Ryan, President and CEO, SCEE, said: "We're very excited to launch a portable gaming device that goes beyond anything available on the market and delivers the uncompromised gaming experiences consumers have been asking for."

There are more than 80 games in production at present and the device supports 3G, wifi and social networks including Facebook and Twitter.
