Enabled by partnership with operator NTT DoCoMo.
Sony has announced that its forthcoming PlayStation Vita will arrive in Japan on 17 December, although other countries can expect to wait until next year.
The handheld games console will come with cellular connectivity as a result of its partnership with operator NTT DoCoMo: gamers will be able to take advantage of a prepaid 3G service.
There will be two connection options available: ¥980 (approximately £8) for 20 hours, and ¥4,980 (approximately £41) for 100 hours, according to Engadget's report.
Sony also says that 100 hours of 3G connectivity will come supplied with the first 500 PSV units sold when pre-orders open on 18 October.
PlayStation Vita isn't just about games: apps including Facebook, Twitter and Skype will be available for the device.
