Sony Music teams with Mobile Roadie

Wants to use DIY app tech to to develop interactive products for artists.

Under the initiative, Sony Music will create apps that offer access to the latest news, streaming music and videos, photo galleries, tour schedules, ticketing options, chat and more.

It's already offering products for artists such as David Archuleta, Marc Anthony, Camila, Chayanne, Daughtry, Jerrod Niemann, Gerardo Ortiz, Brad Paisley, Passion Pit, P!nk, Mike Posner and Thalia.

This is a coup for Mobile Roadie, which has a bunch of bands and celebrities using its platform, including Taylor Swift and Madonna, but is no doubt looking for corporate endorsement.

Indeed, last year it struck a deal with Random House  to power iPhone apps for authors.

"Music fans are looking for deeper levels of engagement with their favorite artists on mobile devices, and to meet that demand we are developing mobile applications that can present consumers with a variety of premium commercial experiences around our artists, including music, games and other content," said Michael Paull, EVP of global digital business at Sony Music Entertainment.
