De-merger can't come quick enough.
Sony Ericsson has seen its status slip from fourth/fifth biggest OEM in the world to the ninth.
It was hoping an focus on Android would turn its fortunes around, but that switch didn't make too much difference as the Xperia range failed to match sales of rivals like Galaxy and Desire.
Then came news that Sony Ericsson would become just Sony, and the next stage in the corporate story would begin.
Prior to that come some bleak financials that show a pre-tax loss of 247 million euros for Q4 2011.
The company said it shipped just 9 million units in the fourth quarter, down 20 percent on last year.
"Our fourth quarter results reflected intense competition, unfavorable macroeconomic conditions and the effects of a natural disaster in Thailand this quarter," said Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg.
Although Sony will now focus even more on smartphones during 2012, feature phones still make up some 20 per cent of Sony Ericsson's sales volumes.
