SMARTS launches idle screen content

Russian operator wakes up idle screens with Celltick.

The NewsCOM-branded service will promote new content by broadcasting messages across idle-screens on customer handsets.

By clicking on the message, users are taken to a menu where they can access news, sports results, horoscopes, ringtones and music.

UK-based Celltick is managing the service using its LiveScreen Media platform, encompassing editorial content, programming and content alliances.

The partners say marketing and advertising will be integrated into NewsCOM in due course.

Stephen Dunford, CEO of Celltick, said: "LiveScreen Media has now been deployed by more than 25 mobile operators across the globe. It is an effective tool for raising revenue while providing a valuable service for subscribers, which is important in the competitive mobile market."
