Was it really an either/or choice?
Skype has confirmed that it won't make its mobile application available through Nokia's Ovi Store in the US, despite announcing a global distribution deal with Nokia last week.
At the time, the two companies said the app would be available to more than 200 million users worldwide.
But now it's emerged that Skype is leaving the US out of the deal, although it WILL make the app available for download there from its own site.
"Skype has made a decision in the United States to not promote the Skype for Symbian app through the Ovi Store," Skype's Sravanthi Agrawal tells VentureBeat.
"We did this so that we could drive more attention to the recently announced Skype and Verizon Wireless agreement. This was a marketing decision - plain and simple."

The app's availability via Skype.com means US users can still get hold of it. But it's a sign of the sensitivities that remain between operators and handset makers in the apps space - especially when the alread-sensitive subject of VoIP is involved.
