Skype for iPad video footage leaks out

Stuart Dredge

Company confirms that VoIP with video calling is on its way to Apple's tablet.

Skype is preparing to release an iPad app to join its existing iPhone version, with video of the new application already leaked online.

The video shows a slick app that makes intelligent use of the iPad's larger screen, while taking advantage of the iPad 2's front-facing camera for video calling.

Skype has since confirmed that the video is kosher, with VP of consumer and product design Rick Osterloh telling TUAW that Apple have "been super supportive" to the app, despite it duplicating some of the key functions of the company's own FaceTime app.

Skype's iPad app is expected to launch on the App Store soon. Given the company's acquisition by Microsoft, you can expect a version to be heading to Windows tablets too once they become available - and possibly deeply integrated into the OS for those devices.

Here's the video.
