Skyfire adds execs from Adobe and Akamai

Keen to improve mobile browser's Flash performance.

Mobile browser firm Skyfire has announced two new hires, bringing former executives from Adobe and Akamai on board.

Vinay Ramani, former group product manager for the Flash platform at Adobe, has joined Skyfire's advisory board.

Meanwhile, ex-Akamai man John Metzger is Skyfire's new VP of engineering.

The company says both appointements were made with better video performance for the Skyfire browser in mind.

"Adobe Flash remains the dominant format for web video, and Flash offers advantages which are likely to make it popular with millions of Flash publishers for years to come," says CEO Jeff Glueck.

"Vinay understands the value of Skyfire’s cloud adaptation platform to improve Flash performance under mobile conditions, across all publishers. And John is the perfect leader, with his Akamai and Netli background, to guide Skyfire’s platform through forthcoming carrier-grade deployments."

Skyfire has also announced two milestones: 1.3 million downloads of the Android version of its browser, and 100 million video streams across all its apps.
