Sky to offer live EPL matches

Sky is to simulcast live Premiership football as part of its mobile TV service.

The UK pay TV giant is to add its Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3 channels to the Sky Mobile TV service for the first time, including exclusive live coverage of 92 Premiership games this coming season.

The first match available will be Sunderland vs Tottenham Hotspur on August 11th, available to Sky Mobile TV subscribers on the Vodafone UK, Vodafone Ireland, Orange UK and, imminently, T-Mobile UK networks.

Launched in November 2005 as a 3G-only service, Sky Mobile TV currently offers 30 channels.

Live sports events already simulcast by Sky on mobile include UEFA Champions League football,  Ryder Cup golf, the Football League Play Offs and England’s Ashes cricket tour of Australia.

Customers will be able to subscribe to the new Sky Sports mobile package for £5 a month, offering unlimited access to the channels without any additional data charges.

Separately, Sky has also announced an agreement with fellow News Corp company News Group Newspapers to launch 24-7 Football, which offers mobile video highlights and goal clips from the Barclays Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

The service will be available to T-Mobile, O2 and 3 customers in the UK and the O2 and 3 in the Republic of Ireland. Further deals with the other major UK and Irish operators are expected in advance of the new season.

Unlimited access to 24-7 Football is on offer for a £5 a month. Alternatively, goals and highlights are priced at 50p per-clip. All prices for 24-7 Football include data charges and no additional charges will be incurred when downloading or streaming video content on participating networks.
