skobbler navigation app for iOS tops 100,000 UK downloads in one day

70 per cent of UK motorists believe mobile navigation will replace dedicated satnavs.

German map-based tech firm skobbler launched GPS Navigation 2 last Wednesday and has received a total of 150,000 UK downloads since then.

This result has pushed GPS Navigation 2 to become the most popular free app in UK's Apple App Store, demonstrating the popularity of mobile in-car navigation.

Philipp Kandal, co-founder, skobbler, said: "To have experienced such success in this short amount of time is quite overwhelming and extremely encouraging. It demonstrates again just how popular mobile phone navigation is becoming."

skobbler conducted a survey with UK motorists, which revealed 70 per cent believe that smartphone navigation will replace dedicated satnavs in the near future, as drivers claimed disconnections and expensive map updates are their biggest irritants.

GPS Navigation 2 has replaced skobbler Lite, which was recently discontinued. The app will remain free until October 19th and after that, it will then retail at £1.49.

skobbler claims it has over 1.6 million iOS users across the globe and has been Germany's most best-selling navigation app for years.
