SK Telecom is upping its efforts to establish mobile TV in Europe.
The South Korean operator has reached a preliminary deal with T-Systems, a unit of Deutsche Telekom, to cooperate on a variety of mobile TV technologies. T-Systems provides IT and telecommunication services for business clients such as DaimlerChrysler and government organisations.SK is a majority shareholder in TU Media, which manages the digital media broadcasting (DMB) mobile TV platform in South Korea. It has over one million satellite subscribers and over four million using ad-funded terrestrial broadcasts.
DMB faces competition in Europe from Nokia-endorsed DVB-H and Qualcomm-owned MediaFLO.
