ShoZu targets app stores

Maker of 'social media hub' to distribute through Ovi, BlackBerry App World and Windows Marketplace.

The ShoZu application is available from ShoZu at no charge on Series 60, Windows Mobile 5, Windows Mobile 6 and selected BlackBerry models.

However, the firm is pursuing a paid-for strategy on apps, charging  $4.99 from Apple’s App Store and pledging to charge a similarly modest, one-time download charge on Ovi et al.

“From our perspective, the app store model is the best way to assure that our consumers have a satisfying social media experience,” said ShoZu Chairman and CEO Chris Wade.

“It’s easier for us to distribute and for users to obtain new apps and updates more frequently, as opposed to a once-a-year purchase of a handset. App stores provide the same benefit as offering a product at retail, with built-in promotion and a commerce engine to get paid.”

The ShoZu social media hub provides one-click uploads of photos and video clips from the mobile to the Web, and the integration of other social networking functions.
