Shazam powers more than 1m tags during Olympics closing ceremony

Gymnastics, swimming, track and field, beach volleyball and basketball rank as the top five tagged sports during the tournament.

The London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony took place last night, and Shazam reports gold medal-winning adoption of its app.

Those watching the Shazam-enabled NBC broadcast made more than one million tags from their mobiles, while the partnership drummed up 'several million' actions in total for the whole tournament.

During the sporting extravaganza, users accessed video highlights, bios, stories, results and so on via the Shazam app, while following tweets and status updates.

With results like this, it's no wonder Shazam has passed the five billion tags milestone.

Andrew Fisher, CEO, Shazam, said: "While the Super Bowl was an incredible one-day live event, the reaction to the Shazam Olympic experience over the course of the last seventeen days has exceeded our expectations.

"NBC has been a truly world class partner, collaborating with us to deliver a unique social TV experience with up-to-the-minute content that was always fresh and engaging on the second screen."
