Users of the media discovery app can access video highlights, results and more.

US sports broadcaster ESPN's X Games tournament runs twice a year, once in the summer and once in the winter.

ESPN has now enlisted Shazam to provide viewers with an interactive function on its app for this year's Winter X Games Aspen 2012, which started yesterday.

The Winter X Games is the Olympics of extreme winter sports. Competitors showcase their skills for a chance to win gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as cash prizes.

Users of Shazam's app that tag live TV coverage of the event will be able to access video highlights, photos, results, music and social media where they can interact with fellow viewers.

David Jones, EVP of marketing, Shazam: "This marks another exciting first for Shazam.  The Winter X Games is the first live sports program to be Shazam-enabled, making it easy for fans to experience more of their favorite events.

"Now, action sports fans have the next best thing to a ticket to Aspen - they can see more of the action, get more of the music and learn more about the day's events - all on their mobile device."

Carol Kruse, ESPN's SVP of marketing: "The X Games has always been more than a sporting event - it's a lifestyle event, too. Shazam for TV will help us create a more connected experience for fans by bringing the great music and culture of the event, as well as photo galleries and highlights, to our fans who can't make it to Aspen."

This is the second mobile movement ESPN has made this week, the first was a partnership with Nokia to enable a free weekend of sport viewing.

The Winter X Games 2012 runs until Sunday, 29th January and sports include skiing, snowboarding and snowmobile.
