Shazam now has 25m iOS users and 5m Android users

And its tags are fuelling 250k-300k track purchases every single day

In early December, Shazam revealed that it had passed the 100 million user milestone. Now the company has now provided ME with some more stats illustrating its growth.

The 100 million figure relates to all people who've used Shazam since its launch ten years ago. However, the company is currently signing up more than one million new users a week across its apps.

Meanwhile, Shazam tells ME that it now has 25 million iPhone and iPod touch users, and five million Android users.

The Shazam apps are being used to tag three million songs a day, with 8-10% of those tags leading to purchases. In other words, every day, between 250,000 and 300,000 digital songs are sold due to being tagged with Shazam.

These figures can be used to get a (very) rough idea of the revenues generated for Shazam from these affiliate sales.

Using iTunes' standard 4-5% affiliate commission and a per-track price of $0.99, you arrive at a figure somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000 a day.

That's $300k-$450k a month, or between $3.6 million and $5.4 million a year, just from affiliate fees. The company has other revenue streams, including paid app sales and advertising.

The caveats: Not all Shazam-fuelled purchases are on iTunes, and not every track costs $0.99. Even so, it's a sign that Shazam's growth is about more than pure user numbers.
