Mobile discovery service Shazam has launched a new music-related feature, using the Facebook API to let users see what their friends are tagging.

The new feature is called Shazam Friends, and adds a new Friends tab to the Shazam iPhone and Android apps. Users can browse friends' tags in a real-time feed, while also checking out what individuals have been tagging.

Songs can be added to their own history and playlists, and there are Buy links to purchase the songs, as well as streaming links where available - for example through Shazam's relationship with Spotify.

"Shazam Friends is a major step forward in social music sharing," says CEO Andrew Fisher. "We all have friends or family with great taste in music and have discovered an artist or song because of them."

Shazam says that more than three million songs are being tagged every day using its apps, with "thousands" of them already being shared on Facebook through the app. The new feature takes Shazam's social engagement on a step, though.

The update for the iOS app is live today, with Android following in a few weeks. Shazam Friends will be available in both the free and paid versions of Shazam's apps, rather than being restricted to the premium versions.
