Pay to play.

Social games platform provider Scoreloop has announced a deal with PayPal to bring in-app payments to Android games.

The agreement will allow developers to charge for in-game content using PayPal, without having to create a merchant account.

"Monetisation is a real issue on Android," says Scoreloop CEO Marc Gumpinger.

"The Android Market's payment still has quite a bit of room for improvement, so developers are relying on ads to monetise. By adding PayPal support we now also make it easier for developers to directly monetise their games along with our virtual currency."

Scoreloop says it's currently adding 100,000 new users a day through Android games using its platform, which offers social tools like leaderboards, friend lists and challenges.

The company is also touting its virtual currency technology, which lets developers charge players for virtual coins, to be redeemed against in-game content.
