But CEO Marc Gumpinger says RIM acquisition means its BlackBerry offering will be 'unparalleled'.
Social mobile gaming platform Scoreloop was acquired by Research In Motion earlier this month, despite its service not actually supporting RIM's BlackBerry smartphones.
That will change fast, but what does the deal mean for Scoreloop's existing business - and its developer partners - on iOS and Android? CEO Marc Gumpinger says the legacy business will not be abandoned. In a post on the Scoreloop homepage, he seeks to reassure developers.
"As part of RIM, we'll be in the unique position to integrate deeply into BlackBerry platforms to take mobile gaming to the next level together," he writes. "We'll continue our cross platform approach, but you'll see that our BlackBerry solution will be unparalleled."
One question being asked by developers is how Apple in particular will react to a RIM-owned Scoreloop continuing to make its platform available in iOS games.
Apple backed away from barring companies owned by competitors from running ads in iOS apps last year - a mease widely seen at the time as targeted at Google and AdMob. That hints that Scoreloop will not be squeezed out of iOS for now.
