Samsung's financials that show there are two giants in the mobile hardware space right now. With Nokia, RIM and Motorola in decline/transition depending on how generous you feel, it's all about Samsung and Apple.
The Cupertino firm is edging it with $46.3 billion in quarterly rev, but Samsung is still turning over vast amounts of cash.
Its $4.7 billion operating profit in Q4 2011 shows a $1.8 billion increase year over year.
And mobile is at the heart of the boom: Samsung sold 300m phones to contribute 40 per cent of the total $42 billion in sales, while generating $2.3 billion of the profit.
Shipments of smartphones were up 30 per cent compared to the previous quarter and Samsung expects the demand for entry-level smartphones and LTE will grow the market by more than 30 per cent over the year.
