Samsung: Q4 revenues at $42 billion, profit at $4.7 billion

Mobile contributing 40 per cent of all sales.

Samsung's financials that show there are two giants in the mobile hardware space right now. With Nokia, RIM and Motorola in decline/transition depending on how generous you feel, it's all about Samsung and Apple.

The Cupertino firm is edging it with $46.3 billion in quarterly rev, but Samsung is still turning over vast amounts of cash.

Its $4.7 billion operating profit in Q4 2011 shows a $1.8 billion increase year over year.

And mobile is at the heart of the boom: Samsung sold 300m phones to contribute 40 per cent of the total $42 billion in sales, while generating $2.3 billion of the profit.

Shipments of smartphones were up  30 per cent compared to the previous quarter and Samsung expects the demand for entry-level smartphones and LTE will grow the market by more than 30 per cent over the year.
