Content distribution channel will be available within two weeks to UK consumers only.

Samsung has confirmed that its Mobile Applications online store will be launched during Mobile World Congress week later this month.

The store provides a distribution channel for members of Samsung's Mobile Innovator developer community and will offer 1,100 for apps for Series 60 and WIndows Mobile handsets.

The service will only be available to UK consumers initially, with others countries and support for other types of devices to follow later in the year.

Samsung unveiled its mobile developer community in September last year in order to give it ammunition to compete with the likes of Apple, Nokia, Android on the app store front.

Phil Northam, Global Marketing Manager at Samsung Mobile Innovator, said: “For Samsung Mobile Innovator members this represents a fantastic opportunity for them to get their applications to a large Samsung-user audience very quickly."
