Korean vendor wants to treble its volumes to 18 million units this year
Samsung has signalled its intentions to wrest the smartphone initiative from the likes of Nokia, RIM and Apple.
According to Reuters, the firm will treble its smartphone shipments this year to 18 million units, and will sell 260-270 million mobile devices in total.
Samsung is investing much in its new Bada platform, and is also ploughing ahead with devices powered by Google's Android OS, Windows Mobile and LiMo.
Analysts are skeptical on the impact that Bada will make however, with Reuters quoting one as saying: "It will be more like a platform that works like the operating system in feature-centric phones. Samsung will try different operating systems from Android to its own and drop whatever won't work."
