Beta version of service to offer Series 60 app developers access to tools, device specs and technical support.
Samsung has unveiled the beta version of its Mobile Innovator developer community. The offering will include a virtual device lab (Lab.dev), business development support (Market.dev) and exclusive technical support (Ask.dev), with a full launch due at The Symbian Smartphone Show in October.
The program and its services are free to all developers as Samsung looks to improve the standing of its smartphones as a channel for advanced Series 60 content, apps and services.
Samsung's FunClub content portal will be a key destination for apps that emerge from Mobile Innovator.
It's part of the wider trend among device manufacturers to take some ownership of the consumer when it comes to downloads and services, as evidenced by Nokia's OVI, Sony Ericsson's PlayNow Arena, Apple's App Store, Google's Android Market and Microsoft's mooted Skymarket.
