Samsung CEO on why his company will

Wants to buck the trend for buying in your own operating system.

Samsung CEO Choi Gee Sung has dismissed speculation that his company might take the webOS software off HP's hands, telling analysts at the IFA exhibition that it will "never" happen.

"It’s not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion," said Choi, according to Bloomberg. The rumours of a Samsung/webOS deal have been floating around the blogosphere for a week or two now, fuelled by analyst suggestions that Samsung was in the market for a new OS.

Here's why it isn't: bada. Samsung is planning to double down on its own smartphone software, which has just got its version 2.0 release with new features.

Having sunk resources into bada over the last year, and sold millions of handsets running it, buying in a completely different operating system would be a peculiar move

Bloomberg tips HTC and Facebook as more likely buyers for webOS if and when HP decides to sell it. That's based on another analyst report, though, from Ovum.
