Yet another broadcast mobile TV standard emerges as Samsung unveils A-VSB.
In simple terms, A-VSB technology is built around the existing ATSC digital terrestrial TV standard used in the US.Samsung is leading the project with German broadcast IT specialist Rohde & Schwarz, with MobiTV providing interactive services via the mobile network or broadband connections.
At CES yesterday Samsung itself unveiled prototypes for A-VSB-enabled mobile phones, MP3 players, portable media players, UMPCs and notebooks.
The partners say the platform 'remains on schedule for completion and availability by February 2009, in time for the US transition to all-digital broadcasting'.
Only last week LG unveiled a similar ATSC-based mobile TV technology called MPH, which it said would be launched at an as yet unspecified date in 2009.
