Samsung and LG lower mobile sales forecasts

Korean giants cut their 2009 mobile sales targets as the downturn bites.

Samsung cut its target by about eight per cent to 222.8 million units from 242 million. Its 2008 sales are projected to be 200.1 million units.

Meanwhile LG's 2009 target is now 105.6 million units instead of 119 million, down about 12 percent. It's expected to sell 100.1 million phones this year.

According to Gartner, Samsung is second behind Nokia in the phone market, with a 17.1 per cent market share. LG is fifth with 7.8 per cent.
