PlayReady tech to be incorporated into firm's content services.
In fact, Playready has already been incorporated into Media Hub – the content service developed by Saffron Digital for Samsung’s Galaxy S handset.
Further integrations are expected in the next few months.
UK-based Saffron has been a vocal supporter of DRM over the years, even though the tech has been derided by some corners of the industry.
It argues that DRM protects the content providers and enables convenient new features to legal consumers of this content – primarily the ability to access movies, games and music across any device in any place.
“With our domain-based DRM solution, we are committed to enabling users to play content securely across as many devices as possible,” says David McDonald, CEO of Saffron Digital.

“The incorporation of Microsoft PlayReady is a significant step towards our overall goal of ‘one copy, any device."
Saffron has integrated domain-based DRM into products from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, HTC, LG and Samsung, as well as services for Sony Pictures, NBC Universal, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Sky, T Mobile and Vodafone.
