Rumours piling up about Apple tablet plans

Latest leak suggests January announcement for May/June launch.

When it comes to rumoured new Apple products, there are hundreds of supposedly reputable sources feeding speculation to journalists and bloggers. Most of them are blowing hot air.

However, Apple-focused website iLounge has a source who it says correctly called the fifth-generation iPod nano and the iPhone 3GS. Now they've used the same source to give details on Apple's long-rumoured tablet device.

The story suggests the device has a 10.7-inch screen, runs the iPhone OS, and looks like a giant iPhone. It will come in two versions, one with 3G and one without.

The device will focus on media, gaming, apps and e-books rather than full-on computing. If given the green light by Apple CEO Steve Jobs - apparently this is 80% likely - it will be announced in mid-January and go on sale in May or June.

That's what iLounge's source claims, anyway. Roll on January when we can find out.
