Rumour: Nokia talking to Facebook

Nokia and Facebook are rumoured to be in talks about a formal partnership.

Website PaidContent reports that Nokia is in negotiations to develop a mobile version of the social network, which it would embed in handsets. It’s even rumoured to be interested in acquiring a small stake in Facebook. Could be expensive after Microsoft paid $240 million for a 1.6 per cent stake in October.

If it happens, the deal would be a major step forward into mobile for Facebook. The company does let users update their profiles by text, but in terms of offering a richer mobile Facebook experience, it’s been tentative. It launched a downloadable app for Blackberry users with T-Mobile in the US and a trial with Telenor. At the CTIA show in October founder Dustin Moskovitz revealed that Facebook had four million mobile users.
