ROK buys its Dream team

Video specialist ROK has acquired Fonedream to create a mobile applications ‘skunk works’.

UK-based ROK, which operates a direct-to-consumer GPRS mobile TV service and distributes movies on memory cards, has called the new production unit ROK Media.

Established back in 2000, Fonedream has developed and distributed mobile content for the likes of Virgin Mobile, Vodafone, Orange, Jamster and AOL. The company has 10 full-time staff and a roster of 30 creative contractors from it’s Lancaster HQ. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jonathan Kendrick, Chairman and CEO of ROK said: “Fonedream has amassed a real pool of talent over the past few years and has developed some fantastic applications which we are delighted to add to our ever-growing product portfolio.”

ROK has several new applications under wraps at present which will be launched later this year. Last week the company announced a strategic shift from exclusively developing new products to the placement of greater efforts into the marketing of existing applications.
