UK games trade body changes name as mobile and the internet change industry landscape
The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) will officially change its name to the UK Interactive Entertainment Association on September 7th, it has been confirmed.
Speaking to ME sister site MCV, ELSPA director general Michael Rawlinson said the move was the result of a changing industry landscape and would ensure that the body remains relevant to its members.
He said: "...many developers know they don’t have to go to a big corporation to get their content out. All of that is blurring. We are no longer talking about just console and PC any more – people play with mobile apps, in browsers and online.”
It will be interesting to see if ELSPA/UKIE forges ties with other trade organisations in the mobile content space, namely the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) and the Association for Interactive Media and Entertainment (AIME).
