Don't just port from iPhone, says VP of global alliances and developer relations Tyler Lessard.
BlackBerry may now support in-app payments, push notifications and OpenGL ES gaming, but Research In Motion hopes developers won't just look to port their iPhone apps with those features to BlackBerry.
“It's not about 'how do I port this over', it's about what the ultimate killer experience would be for their users,”says VP of global alliances and developer relations Tyler Lessard, talking to ME at the BlackBerry Developer Conference.
“LinkedIn and eBay have both taken that clean-slate approach to what the experience should be, and they were both very impressed and surprised by the level of integration they could achieve.”
Both companies showed off their new BlackBerry apps yesterday during the keynote session at the conference, including push, integration with the device's calendar, and the ability to run in the background..
Meanwhile, Lessard says RIM's new advertising service won't restrict developers to only using ad units from its network partners.
"Vendors can work directly with ad networks or providers, they're absolutely free to do that," he says. For the full Tyler Lessard interview, click here.
