RIM to launch 4G BlackBerry PlayBook tablet with Sprint

Going on sale this Summer in the US.

Research In Motion has announced plans to launch a 4G version of its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet with US operator Sprint this Summer.

The partnership addresses one of the criticisms faced by the PlayBook - that the basic model relies on pairing with a BlackBerry for cellular connectivity.

No details have been announced on pricing for the 4G PlayBook or the data plan that will go with it, however.

Sprint says it will market the device to its business customers, but also to consumers, hoping that the PlayBook will straddle both markets.

We assume the 4G PlayBook will also launch elsewhere in the world, where operators have 4G networks up and running. RIM has not announced any other partnerships at this point in time, however.
