RIM's BlackBerry App World client hits version 3.0 (in beta)

Redesigned home screen and carousel, along with more sub-categories for games and themes.

Research In Motion has released version 3.0 of its BlackBerry App World client, armed with a visual rejig and new features for BlackBerry app users.

The client, which is available in RIM's BlackBerry Beta Zone, includes a redesigned home screen with a search box at the top, and new top-level channels for games and themes.

"Games and BlackBerry Themes are our two most popular categories, so we’ve promoted them to the Home Screen," explains RIM in a blog post. "Within these new channels, you’ll find another carousel of Spotlight Banners for featured apps, sub categories, and top 25 lists (“Free”, “Paid”, “Recently Updated”, and “New”)."

RIM has also expanded the BlackBerry App World carousel and made it easier for users to share details of apps via Twitter, Facebook, BBM, email and SMS.

The company says easy subscriptions management, a new My Account section for payment options, better barcode scanning and more search will also be making their way into BlackBerry App World 3.0.
