RIM reduces 3Q forecasts

BlackBerry maker says weakness in US dollar means subs and revenue will miss estimates.

Canada-based Research In Motion says it now expects third quarter revenue to come in at $2.75-$2.78 billion, compared to previous guidance of $2.95-$3.1 billion.

This will equate to 3Q adjusted earnings of 81-83 cents a share, compared to the 89-97 cents a share forecast earlier.

Subscriber additions have also been revised downwards, from 2.9 million to 2.6 million for the quarter.

RIM company has made big headlines recently with the BlackBerry Storm and its app store.

RIM CEO Jim Balsillie said: "Product launch timing, general economic conditions and foreign exchange volatility have tempered our results in the third quarter."
