OS 2.0 will feature "thousands of new apps." But no BBM.
The new operating system for RIM's BlackBerry tablet will be delayed until February 2012, according to the Inside BlackBerry blog.
The firm claims the wait is to ensure it is confident that the expectations of developers and enterprise customers have been met.
RIM says the first step being taken is to exclude BBM from OS 2.0's features, choosing instead to reserve it for a further upgrade ensuring the app is "seamless."
Seamless is a word not many would associate with BlackBerry and its services at present with poor device sales and a four-day power outage.
RIM's second step is to provide developers with a "gold release" of PlayBook's SDK and a beta of OS 2.0, which it believes will generate thousands of new apps for the device.

The PlayBook's software update is reported to include:
* Better synchronisation between PlayBook and BlackBerry smartphone
* Advanced integrated email
* Calendar and contact apps
* Video store
Earlier this month RIM announced BBX OS, the saviour of its smartphone and tablet devices but the blog contained no mention of it.
Since RIM's BBX announcement it has been served a lawsuit from software developer Basis, which cites trademark infringement over the name.
