RIM passes 10,000 apps on BlackBerry App World

Quality over quantity?

Research In Motion has confirmed that it now has more than 10,000 apps available on its BlackBerry App World store.

Bloggers have known the milestone for several days, since RIM publishes the number of apps in each category on its App World website.

However, the official BlackBerry Twitter account confirmed the news last night, describing the store as "10,000 apps strong and growing".

The number pales next to the 250,000+ apps on Apple's App Store, and the 70,000+ on Google's Android Market.

However, pure numbers are increasingly not the best measure of an app store. It's more relevant to ask how many of those apps are a.) good and b.) providing a decent return for their developers.

Not to mention how effective the stores are at recommending the best and most relevant apps for their users.

RIM has taken criticism on these grounds since the launch of App World, but should have more to say about the evolution of its store at its BlackBerry Developer Conference later this month.
