$60 a month gets US customers unlimited use of Rhapsody's Android app, although one label isn't taking part.
Subscription music service Rhapsody will be bundled into the cost of monthly contracts sold by US mobile operator MetroPCS, the company has announced.
Customers buying an Android smartphone from the carrier and signing up to its $60 monthly tariff will get a full Rhapsody Unlimited subscription, along with unlimited voice minutes, texts and web access.
MetroPCS isn't one of the larger US operators, but it's a significant deal for Rhapsody, because it's the first time the company's service has been bundled into an operator's tariff. Its previous carrier deals have been more about preloading its app on devices, but users must then pay for it on top of their mobile contracts.
"We are excited about offering MetroPCS customers the opportunity to enjoy a dynamic digital music experience at such an incredible value," says Rhapsody president Jon Irwin.
However, it seems there are strings attached - or rather, one particular string missing. According to music industry site Billboard, Warner Music Group is not allowing its catalogue to be included in the deal, meaning MetroPCS' Rhapsody users will miss out on songs from its artists unless they buy or access them elsewhere.
