iPhone to Come With Shows?
Apple is trying to sell broadcasters on the idea of a $30-a-month TV subscription service for iTunes, according to US site All Things Digital.
The report suggests that the subscription would not be tied to a specific device, but would be handled through the iTunes software.
However, this would presumably mean that subscribers could watch their downloaded shows on their iPhone or iPod touch, as well as on their computer or on their TVs via the Apple TV set-top box.
Potential obstacles to the scheme include broadcasters' fears that they'd cannibalise their advertising revenues elsewhere by offering shows through an iTunes subscription service.
Currently, iPhone users can buy a range of TV shows and films through iTunes to watch on the go, but they are charged on an a la carte basis.
