Full tracks, ringback tones and ringtones all part of unified storefront
US operator Sprint has chosen RealNetworks to power a new unified music storefront, offering ringtones, ringback tones and full-track music.
It's the second big content deal inked by Sprint in the last 24 hours - it has also agreed to include a link to the GetJar catalogue on its portal for most Sprint handsets including feature phones and smartphones running the BlackBerry and Windows Mobile OS.
In terms of the RealNetworks deal the plan is to streamline Sprint’s digital music offerings later this year to provide increased choice for its users and increased internal efficiencies.
Real’s ASP services are currently available through 86 different mobile operators in 48 countries, making them available to more than 900 million subscribers.
Len Barlik, vice president, wireless and wireline services, Sprint. “This relationship with RealNetworks allows us to give Sprint customers an easy-to-use option to find, purchase and manage the music-related content they want on their phones in a more convenient, intuitive way.”
