Macworld reports US-based ringtone creator Rcptones is offering its latest ringtone 'album' to iPhone users on a 'pay what you want' basis.Customers who want to purchase the Electronic Ringtones Volume 1 pack (comprising 45 tones) are being told they can pay any price they wish between free and $8.99, mimicking the strategy used by Radiohead for the releases of its last album.
In a note to users of its site, Rcptones adds: "If you download the ringtones for free, we ask that you send an email to friends about rcptones.com or spread the word in some way. Thanks."
The pay what you want tones are also available for regular MP3-enabled handsets, and are being offered at full price from Amazon and iTunes too.
