New OTA solution being offered to pay TV providers, including payment and DRM elements.
QuickPlay's platform allows viewers to access content stored on a set-top box and download it (with usage rights) over-the-air/wi-fi/sideloading to various types of consumer electronics and mobile devices.
It sounds like the Canadian company is pitching the Mobile Set-Top Box technology as a pay TV provider-friendly solution that offers capabilities similar to Slingbox.
Functionality includes DRM protection with content expiry; DVR content transfer capabilities (including the ability to pause playback during a call); Geographic and Entitlement Access Control (locks content to specific regions); optimisation for various device specs and memory management.
Wayne Purboo, president and CEO at QuickPlay Media, said: "With the Mobile Set-Top Box solution, we enable service providers to extend the value of their premium programming by making it available to subscribers anywhere they may go, complete with all of the capabilities they’ve come to count on from their set-top boxes.”
