Could mark debut of mobile TV broadcasting service in the UK.

Qualcomm hopes the 2012 Olympic Games in London could be a launchpad for its MediaFLO mobile TV service in the UK.

"MediaFLO could be a great asset for use during the Olympic Games in 2012," FLO's SVP and GM Neville Meijers tells ME. "We are having a number of different conversations around that."

However, issues such as spectrum and licence availability continue to serve as barriers to the rollout of MediaFLO in Europe, not to mention the specification of rival mobile TV technologies.

Meanwhile, FLO has high hopes for its Personal Television gadget, which launched this month in the US.

"It’s a culmination of pulling together the technology, D2C billing and customer care, as well as making sure we have the right distribution partners and the right device in the market, with the right price point and content," says Meijers.
