Qik submits livestreaming video app for iPhone

Ustream approval should ensure it appears on the App Store quickly.

Livestreaming startup Qik has submitted a live broadcasting application to Apple for distribution on the App Store, following the release yesterday of a rival app from Ustream.

That was the first time an app that could broadcast live video from an iPhone had been approved by Apple. Qik's speedy submission is due to the fact that it's had a livestreaming app available for jailbroken iPhones for months.

"We have now taken the next step and submitted the Qik application that enables you to share your experience live from your iPhone for approval to App Store," says a blog post from the company.

"So, now let's see what happens."

The approval of Ustream's app should mean Qik's sails through too, unless Apple takes umbrage at the popularity of the jailbroken version of course. Watch this space.
