MIX10 event draws the likes of Shazam, EA, Foursquare, Sling Media and Oberon
Microsoft will today use its MIX10 event to detail how developers can use the likes of Silverlight and XNA Framework to build games and other apps for Windows Phone 7 Series.
Specifically, the company used its keynote address to tell developers to harness the following capabilities when designing apps for its mobile OS:
- Accelerometer
- A Microsoft Location Service to provide developers with a single point of reference to acquire location information
- Microsoft Notification Service for pushing information to phones, regardless of whether or not an application is running

- Hardware-accelerated video with digital rights management (DRM)
- Internet Information Services Smooth Streaming for a high quality content viewing experience
- Multitouch
- Camera and microphone support
In order to attract developers to its platform, Microsoft is now providing a set of support tools for Silverlight on Windows Phone 7 Series.
Scott Guthrie, corporate VP of the .NET Developer Platform, said: “As the browser, server, web and devices evolve, a focus on delivering consistently great user experiences has become paramount. By extending our familiar platform technologies and tools to phones, Microsoft is delivering the premier application development experience across a variety of devices and form factors.”
It seems quite a few content providers have already taken the plunge, however, with Microsoft using MIX10 to confirm that the following companies will be creating apps for its OS (deep breath):
