But Bloomberg forecast compares Palm's device unfavourably to iPhone's first 12 month performance.

Which is a tad unfair given that Apple and the impact of its iPhone is somewhat unique in the annals of mobile history.

Anyway, Bloomberg surveyed ten analysts and came up with a median forecast of 2.6 million Pre sales in its first year of availability, compared to 6.1 million iPhones sold during the same period in its own life cycle.

Analysts cited in the article point out that Palm, which saw its stock rise 80 per cent in the days after it announced the touchscreen Pre handset, unlike Apple doesn't have legions of fanboys to give it iPhone-like success during a recession.

All of which is stating the obvious. Palm has partnered with Sprint to launch the Pre in the US, with the current betting (via an eroneous beta tester Twitter post) on an April 30th debut at $299 on a two-year contract.
