Trident Capital and BlackBerry Partners Fund finance indie app store
Independent mobile app store PocketGear has raised $15 million in Series B funding, led by Trident Capital with participation from the BlackBerry Partners Fund.
PocketGear says it will use the money to scale technical operations, build out its sales and marketing team and expand its global reach.
The US-based company claims to have 32,000 developer relationships and a catalog of 140,000 paid and free titles. It also powers content storefronts for 40 distribution partners.
PocketGear made a splash back in February when it acquired Handango and this month helped Dell roll out its own app store.
It's going head-to-head with the likes of GetJar, with both seeking to provide an alternative apps destination to those offered by the handset manufacturers and operators.
