Bolt Creative making more money even after making its game iPhone 3.0 only.
iPhone developer Bolt Creative is pleased with the response - and equally importantly the revenues - to its recent introduction of in-app payments for its popular Pocket God game.
Boss Dave Castelnuovo says that the company "haven't received much of a backlash", even though the change involved making the game only work on iPhones and iPod touches running the 3.0 software and above.
Players can now pay $0.99 for a downloadable content (DLC) pack that lets them reskin the game's Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur.
"We lost about 10 ranking points in the top paid apps (US) due to the 3.0 change but it seems we are fairly stable at 33 right now," writes Castelnuovo on the Touch Arcade forums.
"Even though new users dipped, our overall sales of DLC + new users are better than what we were getting before with just new users."

He estimates that DLC sales are now 27% of the company's sales from the game. However, Bolt Creative has no plans to take advantage of Apple's new rules on in-app payments for free apps.
"We have no plans to offer a free version of Pocket God with a $0.99 upgrade fee," he writes. "Right now we are afraid that if we switch to free+DLC, we may lose some of our visibility on the Top Paid apps list."
Pocket God has just launched its 27th episodic update: 'Barking Spider, Crouching Pygmy'. The key new feature: "a humongous spider".
