US content provider receives regulator blessing to offer direct-to-consumer services.
PlayPhone has become the second direct-to-consumer mobile content provider operating in Canada after getting the green light from the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association. As of today PlayPhone is offering the usual mix of ringtones, games, video and other content from its localised web and WAP portals, with billing integration across Rogers, Bell and Telus.
PlayPhone, now a member of the CWTA, says it was allowed to move its business north of the border after working closely with the association on regulatory compliance.
It's the latest territorial expansion for the company, which is also pushing heavily into Europe.
Ron Czerny, founder and CEO at PlayPhone, said: “We’ve worked diligently to secure top content from our partners and making it available to Canada’s mobile consumers makes them the real winners in all of this.”
