PlayFirst survey reveals cross-platform gaming habits

14% of casual gamers play across PC, Facebook and smartphone.

A survey commissioned by games publisher PlayFirst highlights the increasingly cross-platform habits of casual gamers.

The study, conducted by Frank N. Magid Associates, found that two thirds of American adults play some form of digital game, while a third play 'casual games' on PC/Mac, Facebook and/or smartphones.

Breaking those platforms down, the study claims that 87% of US casual gamers are playing on PC or Mac, 50% on Facebook and 28% on smartphones.

However, 52% are playing on at least two of the three platforms, while 14% are playing on all three.

The study also suggests that iPhone gamers are more likely to be young men, compared to the 'millennial women' who prefer to play on Facebook.

"Casual digital game play has truly become a pervasive part of the American lifestyle now that we can take our games with us anywhere and play them anytime," says PlayFirst president and CEO Mari Baker.

"The popularity of emotionally engaging casual games is exploding due to the convenience factor mobile and social platforms bring to game players of both genders and all ages."
